A. Lincoln "Linc" Fisch, age 93, retired college teacher, passed away Friday, September 11, 2020 in Lexington, Kentucky. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Donna Fisch (nee Keyser); children, Martha Fisch of Eleanor, West Virginia, John (Wendy) Fisch of Liberty Township, Ohio, and Karl (Jill) Fisch of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; grandchildren, Abby, Mara and Barrett. He was a resident of Lexington, Kentucky since 1973.
Linc was born in Amherst, Ohio on February 11, 1927, to Morris and Marie E. Fisch (nee Braun). In 1936, his family relocated to Massillon, Ohio where he graduated from Washington High School in 1944.
He served on active duty in the United States Navy during World War II and was Honorably Discharged in 1946.
He pursued further studies at Ohio State University, Ohio Wesleyan University (A.B. 1949), University of Wisconsin (M.S. 1950), and the University of Michigan. He was a member of the academic honor society, Phi Beta Kappa, and social fraternity Phi Delta Theta.
Linc taught mathematics at Ohio University, Centre College, University of Kentucky and Eastern Kentucky University. He was the director of Freshman Men's residence halls at the University of Florida. He was an associate dean of students at Hiram College and the University of Akron. He held appointments in dentistry, public health and higher education at the University of Kentucky. He held a variety of positions during 12 years at the University of Michigan.
For 20 years after active classroom teaching, he was a frequent presenter on college campuses and at educational conferences, particularly the Lilly Conferences on College Teaching and annual meetings of the Professional and Development Network in Higher Education.
His long time interest and participation in choral music began in Massillon, Ohio and culminated in 42 years as a member of the Lexington Singers. He was an avid birder, hiker, gardener, loved to transplant native trees and flowers, amateur chef, and spent many enjoyable times at the cabin in the Red River Gorge.
He participated in the American Spiritual Ensemble's Tour of Spain in 1992. He sang in special concerts under the direction of noted conductors Robert Shaw, John LaMontagne, and Thomas Schippers.
Private family service will be held at a later date.
