Alan Weinrich, 59, completed his life at the end of May in Hospice of Cincinnati. He grew up in Wayne, New Jersey and graduated from Rutgers University and the University of Iowa. Alan was committed to protecting public health, worker safety and our environment. He worked as an Industrial Hygienist and Scientist for Tennessee OSHA, University of Tennessee, University of Iowa, PSI Energy, Purdue University, the American Conference for Governmental Industrial Hygienists, NIOSH and the National Center for Environmental Assessment with the Environmental Protection Agency.
Alan also spent two years as Lutheran campus minister at the University of Virginia and two years as substitute teacher and coach at the International School Moshi, Tanzania. He met his wife of thirty years, Kathy, in Memphis Tennessee and they married at the foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro in East Africa. Together, they traveled through thirty countries and circumnavigated the globe in 1984. Alan and Kathy bicycled their tandem across Iowa and all around Indiana, and Alan bicycled across Ohio, and from Eugene, Oregon through high mountain passes into Yellowstone, Wyoming in July of 1993. Alan also leaves their two children, Sheena and David Weinrich, and his three brothers, Brian, Jonathan and Timothy Weinrich.
A memorial gathering will be at 11am on Saturday, June 29th, at Northern Hills United Methodist Church at 6700 Winton Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45224. Four friends, important in Alan's life, will celebrate his life as son, brother, friend, coworker, fellow cyclist, husband, uncle, father and mentor. Tea and a light luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall. Bikes and bike attire will be welcomed.
