Alberta Rice George "Granny", age 65 of Cincinnati passed away on Monday, July 9, 2012 at her residence. She was born January 13, 1947 in Covington, Kentucky, the daughter of Prosperity and Florence (Rice) Custard. Alberta confessed her life to Christ at an early age, and attended Ninth Street Baptist Church. She later joined West End Community Church under the leadership of Pastor Donald Henderson, where she was a member until her health started to fail her. Granny enjoyed going to bingo, working, and going to church. She retired from the United States Postal Service on September 24, 2001 after 20 years of delivering mail, where she was loved by her customers and staff. Granny loved raising her four children and her grandchildren. She also raised her two sisters upon her mother's passing. She took pride in being a mother and grandmother. The legacy she leaves her children and grandchildren is to trust and walk with God. To keep the family together, a family that prays together stays together. On October 27, 1992 in Cincinnati she was married to Lorenzo George.
Granny leaves to mourn her loss and to keep her legacy alive is her husband, Lorenzo George; four children, Laronda (Mark) Jones, Sophia Lewis, Antheria (Bryan) Commodore, and Eric Rice; her special daughter, Angela (Ken) Jones; two sisters, Patricia (Victor) Marks and Phyllis Ali; her three nieces, Tyra Rice, Korliss Rice, and Otha Lattimore; her nephew, Rafi Ali; her two aunts, Mary Catherine Rice and Margaret Kelly; her two uncles, Albert and Henry Rice; eleven grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; two son-in-laws; one sister-in-law; seven brothers-in-law; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral service will be held at the Newcomer Funeral Home, 7830 Hamilton Avenue, on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Donald Henderson officiating. Burial will follow in Spring Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10:00 AM until time of service at 11:00 AM.
