Obituary
Almetta Bray Scott was born in Eastman, Georgia on December 21, 1922, to the union of the late John and Rosa Bray. She was the last survivor of nine siblings: Precious, Hosea, Louella, Aaron John, Roberta, Iris, Christopher, and Rose. She departed this life peacefully on February 13, 2018, at home.
After high school, Almetta left Eastman to live with relatives. She worked in Buffalo, New York and Washington, D.C. before moving to Cincinnati, Ohio in 1948, at the urging of her sister, Louella. It was here in Cincinnati that she met and married Harold Lloyd Scott on May 16, 1949. They had two children, Linda Lou and Harold Vernon. Both her husband and son have preceded her in death.
Almetta worked a number of years at St. Mark's Rectory and over 35 years for the Dr. David Schneider family as a housekeeper and caretaker of their children.
Almetta attended Tryed Stone Missionary Baptist Church a number of years before joining her present church, Higher Ground Global Ministries. She sang Soprano in Tryed Stone's Mass Choir and her home was the headquarters for the banners being made for the new church facility. Almetta served on various committees and she was noted for making lap covers as a fund raiser at Higher Ground. Her love for God and the churches she belonged to was unwavering. Almetta loved the Lord and had accepted him at her Personal Savior.
Almetta loved her family and participated in her children and granddaughter's extracurricular school activities. She was an active PTA parent and she attended every softball game, every play, and every musical. She was her family's biggest supporter.
She leaves to cherish her memory, one daughter, Linda Lou; one granddaughter, Bethany Lynn; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends, including two special first cousins, Hattie Turner and Thelma Middlebrooks, and also a special sister-friend, Norma Cousins. She will also be fondly remembered by her special family Dr. David Schneider, Betsy, Brooke, Kai, and Jordan. In addition, she leaves behind Bethany's siblings, who affectionately called her Grandma: Chovonne, Ginger, Lawrence, LaAnder, Lloyd, LaMar, LaDonna, LaReeca, and LyDonn.
