Alvin Russell was born on March 20, 1951 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Henry
Otis Tyus and Nellie Ruth Tyus (Russell). He was the oldest of 12
children born to this union. God called Alvin to his heavenly home on
December 12, 2012. He accepted Jesus at an early age and was baptized
at Shady Grove Baptist Church.
Alvin graduated from Aiken High School in 1969. Following high
school, he was employed by General Motors and after joined Ford Motor
Company where he was employed for 33 ½ years. He retired from Ford
Motor Company in 2006. He was committed to his work and well
respected by his peers. During his life, Alvin enjoyed playing
baseball, basketball, bid whist, singing, dancing, traveling, horse
riding, computers, and most of all spending time with family and
friends.
Alvin was a loving son who desired only the best for his parents.
There was nothing he would not do for them. He loved them deeply and
spent much quality time with them. As a brother, Alvin was always
there for all his brothers and sisters. He was a loving father to all
his children whom he cherished. Alvin raised his two youngest
daughters into beautiful women. For all who knew him, Alvin was
caring, supportive, humble, loving, giving, unselfish, and
encouraging. Words cannot describe the impact he had on so many
lives.
Alvin was beyond an uncle, he was a role model to his
nieces and nephews. Alvin's weakness was his grandchildren. As a
result of his concern for people, he made many friends and gained the
respect of his family. Alvin was a man of integrity. He had a strong
passion for God, family, and friends. Alvin was a good steward over
all God entrusted to him.
