Andrea (Andy) E. Rotterman (nee, Fisk) age 67, of Springfield Township, Ohio passed away on Friday, August 5, 2022. She was born in Erlanger, KY on October 26, 1954 to Cletus L. and Eunice Fisk (nee Bain). Andy attended a mix of public and private schools before graduating from Miami University with a bachelor's degree in psychology and later a master's degree in education. Andy left her mark wherever she went and started doing so early. In grade school she was reprimanded for attempting to float a classmate's shoes across a pond. While she no doubt had good reason for making the effort, the shoes sank, and her parents heard about it; later regaling her children with the same story.
Her interests were varied, a rich outer life reflecting the depth of her inner life. A vegetable garden nearly always graced the family home while large birdfeeders welcomed in winged comers often with Andy and a bird ID book nearby. Since she was young, Andy needed a dog by her side like most people need to breathe. At her home, a succession of dearly loved dogs were on hand to attempt to keep the squirrels at bay.
Store bought cakes were mostly an anathema for Andy. She proudly, and with great aptitude, carried on the traditions of her mother and grandmother to provide fresh baked cakes for birthdays and other celebrations. The cakes could be very rich, and someone asking for a small piece was apt to get extra icing for their mistimed desire for moderation.
Ever curious and seeking, she was rarely without a book or magazine, and equally as often, a pen or keyboard to record her own words. Behind her family, the written word, consumed or produced, may have been her truest passion. She leaves behind an unpublished memoir on becoming an only child after the tragic and traumatic losses of her older brothers when she was a child. In that cavern of loss, she found her way and became a quiet warrior for kindness, for gentleness. Her children and all those who know her are better for how she carried herself through and out of that darkness.
Such was her warrior's strength that cancer had to come back three times, over the course of 25 years, to take her from us. This last year was particularly hard on her and her family. If you know someone caring for an ailing loved one, check in on them today. They are more tired than they will admit, and community offers a helpful reprieve.
Andy was preceded in death by her father, Cletus L. Fisk, mother, Eunice Fisk, and her two older brothers, Cletus John (Johnny) and Clyde Andrew Fisk. She is survived by her devoted husband Jerome Rotterman. Her three children and their partners, John and wife Lynn, Eliza and husband Taylor, as well as Erik and his fiancé Eng, will miss their mother's unconditional love, openness, and wit. Her four grandchildren, River, Louie, Sasha, and Ollie will honor her legacy for many years to come.
In loving memory of Andrea, contributions may be made to Cancer Support Community in Blue Ash.
