Ann E. Haas

April 6, 1932 — January 28, 2024

Ann was born on April 6, 1932 in Cheviot, Ohio, the oldest of 4 children. She grew up in the area and went to Mercy High School, where she was involved in many school activities including her favorite, volleyball. She worked as a counselor at a children's camp, a ticket-taker at the cinema, as well as other administrative jobs in various companies in the Cincinnati area. Notably, for two years, she taught 3rd grade at St. Martin's school, impacting many young children in that short time.

In 1956, a friend convinced her to attend a dance across the river in Kentucky. There she caught the eye of a local man, Tony Haas, who asked her to dance. The two immediately hit it off, and as Ann said, "never looked at anyone again". The two were married on July 6, 1957 and later had four children: Linda, Laurie, Stephen and Robert. She also had three grandchildren: Zaya & Zander Haas and Dennis Chastang. Ann and Tony were married for 54 years until Tony fell asleep in death. Ann worked hard taking care of her family and always ensured they saved money for annual vacations at numerous State Parks. The family has wonderful memories of camping, staying in cabins, and hiking the trails in places like Pine Mountain, Jenny Wiley, and Natural Bridge State Parks.

Ann had a very outgoing personality and never had a problem talking to people. As her late husband once said, "Ann could talk to a stranger in the graveyard at midnight"! She enjoyed traveling and after her husband retired, the two made several trips to Florida, Texas & Washington, DC to visit their children. The two really made the most of retirement and used the opportunities to appreciate nature and enjoy family.

From a very young age, Ann had a strong interest in religion - always asking questions and wanting to know more about God. In 1971, a young pioneer named Paula Gillespie knocked on her door. Ann peppered her with questions which Paula answered from the Bible. She studied the Bible several times a week with Paula. Though she knew it was a major change in her life, Ann knew she had found the Truth and was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses on November 24, 1973. Ann loved talking to people about the Bible and her hope of everlasting life on a paradise earth. Up to the end of her life, she continued sharing Bible truths with anyone who would listen. She also never missed a meeting, even attending through zoom when her health began to fail her. Her faith was rewarded when her husband and two sons later became Jehovah's Witnesses.

Ann is survived by her four children: Linda Chastang, Laurie Eggemeier (husband-Dan), Stephen (wife–Brooke) and Robert (wife-Gina); her 3 grandchildren; and sister (Claire LoBuono) and brother (Thomas Hayden). Her youngest brother (Jim Hayden) preceded her in death.
