Antoinette Asimus

December 28, 1945 — January 27, 2025

Cincinnati, Ohio

Jan 27, 2025

Antoinette Asimus, age 79, passed away on Monday, January 27, 2025. Wife of Richard Asimus, mother of Nicole Gunderman (Matt), grandmother of Owen Gunderman, sister of Carleen Glasser (Dr. William). Predeceased by parents Carl Heimbach, Isabelle (nee Martinelli) Heimbach.

Throughout her life, Antoinette dedicated herself to love and service of others, the planet and the Divine.

Antoinette was dedicated to supporting children. She taught 6th graders in inner city Pittsburgh, both teaching and learning with her students. Working with a student program of the University of Cincinnati, she co-founded and directed Ohio’s first recycling center.

For twenty years she served as a hospital administer in a variety of departments at Jewish Hospital, Good Samaritan and TriHealth. Entrepreneurship was important to her. For another twenty years, she operated her own non-profit business with her husband Richard, teaching thousands of individuals and couples the skills of love and consciousness leading to spiritual enlightenment.

Antoinette served on numerous Boards of Directors including Santa Maria Community Services, American Society of Directors of Volunteer Services, Cincinnati Symphony Club, and was an active member of The League of Women Voters. She led the Healthy Democracy Team of the political action group Bold New Democracy whose work expanded the values of equity, inclusion and civic engagement.

Antoinette’s interests included monthly book discussions at the Mercantile Library, preparing healthy wonderful meals for her family, and traveling to Paris, her favorite city for culture and practicing conversational French. As theater subscribers, she and Richard marveled at the plays of the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company. She was a monthly patron of the Cincinnati Art Museum, learning from the special exhibits and enjoying lunch in the Café with friends and family.

Antoinette shared 58 years of loving super partnership and creativity with her husband Richard. She absolutely loved being the mother of Nicole, sharing each aspect of life, big and small. Antoinette deeply appreciated her grandson, Owen. When he was young they engaged in imaginative play and created art together. As he grew, she treasured deep dives with him into spirituality and philosophy.

Antoinette truly embodied her life purpose of love and service. She approached everything she did with grace, poise, care, intelligence, diligence, compassion, and a sense of humor. During past months as she struggled in a failing body, her intellect and wit continued to shine through. Even in her last days she teased her family with a big smile and an inside joke, “Let’s go ballistic!” It brought us lightness and joy.
