LEWIS, Bert L. age 88, of Cincinnati, Ohio passed away on Thursday, December 3, 2015. He was born in 1927 to James and Alice Lewis (Gragston) in Augusta, Ky. Bert was one of nine children born to his parents. He was preceded in death by his siblings Jack, Anna, Della, Richard, James, Eugene, Ada Jean and Alma. He is survived by his brother Reynolds Lewis of Goldsboro, North Carolina, nephews Ronald Washington and Clarence Richard Lewis, and many nieces, nephews, and other family members.
Bert was an avid musician and loved playing his piano and organ. He is fondly remembered for playing the Boogie Woogie with a cigarette hanging from his lips with a cocktail nearby. While growing up Bert performed on the local radio station with his sisters and brothers, singing gospel and jazz music.
In his younger years he taught at the local elementary school hoping to make it his career. However, he was summoned to protect his country and joined the US Army to fight in the Korean War. While in the service Bert worked as a surveyor and obtained the rank of sergeant.
After the war he briefly lived in Chicago playing music and entertaining people. When he returned to Cincinnati he worked and retired from Indian Creek in Indian Hills, Ohio.
After a long illness he joined his parents and siblings in the hereafter. He will always be remembered for being a loving and kind man, eager to spoil his nieces and nephews. Special thanks to his nephew Ronnie Washington and family friend Edna Menter Tentman for taking care of Bert during his long illness.

Funeral Ceremony will be at 11:00 am Thursday, December 10, 2015 with a visitation from 10:00 am - 11:00 am at Newcomer Funeral Home - Northwest Chapel, 7830 Hamilton Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio 45231.
