Betty Hawkins, 83
Betty Hawkins went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was born to Ella Christopher on December 16, 1928 in Chickasaw, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her mother, Ella; her father, Spurgeon Strickland; and her only sister, Edna Mae Strickland.
Betty worked at the Orange Bar restaurant in downtown Cincinnati while continuing her education. Education was very important to her. She then began working at the Christ Hospital in 1966 and was a dedicated employee until her retirement in 1990.
Betty was a committed, long time member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church where she served as a missionary and was a dedicated worker in the church.
She was a funny, fun-loving person and anyone who really knew her, knew that she loved playing bid-whist and played it in a very competitive way. Betty always had a smile on her face. She wouldn't allow anyone around her to be sad. She would say "God woke you up this morning, that's already enough to be happy about!" Her favorite saying to her daughters was "If you can't help a person, please don't hurt them."
She leaves to mourn her passing and carry on her memory, her two loving daughter's Doris J. Carter and Cynthia Hawkins-Frost (Cincinnati, Ohio); five devoted grand children; Jerry Carter, Jr., Anthony Hawkins, Gino Dwayne Hawkins, Marcus Tyler Frost, Alexandra Nicole Carter; 11 great grandchildren; Amonei, Anthony, Errion, Aviere, Mekaiyla, Kissandra, Julian, Alijah, Carsen, Layla (affectionately known as "Butt" by Betty) and Serenity; ten nieces and nephews; Jackie, Reggie, Tina, Charles, Christopher, Eddie, Isaiah, Tierra, Blessing and Ke'ron; Close family friends Betty Cunningham, Robin, Bridget, Joel and Tanya and a host of other dear friends and loving family.
