Bonnie L. Smith was born on September 3, 1938 to Ruth Williams Smith and Robert Smith in London, Kentucky. Bonnie moved to Cincinnati as a teenager to pursue her education. She attended Cincinnati Public Schools, where she excelled in mathematics, and later attended Campbell Commercial College in 1974. Bonnie worked for years as a Bookkeeper for Frisch's "Big Boy" Corporation. She retired when her health began to fail.
She was a cancer survivor and fought until the end. Known to be direct, she would put you in your place and you knew she meant it. Bonnie was what you would call a real "straight shooter" and from some of the stories about her, you could take that literally.
Bonnie loved buying scratch offs and was very lucky. She loved Lay's Potato Chips and Honey Buns, so it made her day if you showed up with any one of them on your visit.
She was a "Bonus Mom" to Robert Kirkland and she loved him dearly. Robert, his wife Kalyani and their children brought her so much joy, she got to be the grandmother she always wanted to be.
Left to cherish her memory are sisters, Connie Smith, Carol Jo Eley, Paulette Smith, and Linda Smith; brothers, Leonard D. Smith (Gloria), Michael W. Smith, Danny Smith, Roy Smith, Robert Smith, and Michael H. Smith; grandchildren, Skilar Kirkland, Kori Kirkland, Camdan Kirkland, Amir Kirkland, Oshea Kirkland; niece, Victoria (Kirk) Lynch, Patricia Lynn (Melvin) Jenkins, and Lolita McClain; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends. The Lord called Bonnie home on May 27th, 2021 and now she is no longer suffering. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Homer Smith, William McClain, Patricia Smith and James Smith.
A visitation will be on Saturday, June 5, 2021 from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Northwest Chapel, 7830 Hamilton Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio 45231. Funeral Ceremony will follow at 12:00 pm.
