Burl Helton, age 88, of Florence, Kentucky passed away on Tuesday, October 31, 2023. He was born in Greenup, Kentucky on March 20, 1935 to the late Adam and Ella Helton (nee England).
He was preceded in death by his parents, eight siblings and son-in-law, Andy Aylor. Burl is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Mable Helton (nee Melton); children, Cindy (Rick) Gilland, Tony (Joni) Helton and Jenny Aylor; grandchildren, Josh, Molly (Arrick), Katie, Ryle, Bryssa, Lauryn, Emily and Nick; great-grandchildren, Chandler, Zoe, Oliver, Graham, Bryson, Keegan, Kenzie, Brynlee, Jameson and Sadie Belle; close family friend, Jennifer Fletcher; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Burl served in the United States Army in the Korean War during his three years of service and after served in the National Guard for three years. He was a true patriot that loved his country throughout his life as well as loving our Lord.
Burl was an avid reader and jack of all trades. He enjoyed watching football and baseball. He often spent time bowling and fishing.
He was active in his community, coaching knothole baseball, as well as his involvement with peewee football. All of the kids in the neighborhood knew they could go to Burl to fix anything they needed, including their bicycles. During his career as a crane operator, he helped build many structures around the tri-state area.
Burl was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who especially adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In his later years he built benches and birdhouses, which took him back to his early years of spending time in the family sawmill with his father.
In loving memory of Burl, contributions may be made to Florence Baptist Temple Bus Ministry, without this service he would not have been able to attend church services when he lost the ability to drive. A visitation will be held Monday, November 6, 2023 from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm with a service to follow at Florence Baptist Temple, 1898 Florence Pike, Burlington, KY 41005. A Committal Service will be held Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at 2pm at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 3227 Dixie Hwy., Erlanger, KY 41018.
