Calvin "Doug" Akers, age 54 of Cincinnati passed away on Thursday, May 17, 2012 in Oklahoma City. He was born on June 1, 1957 the son of Samuel and Geraldine (Whitaker) Akers. Doug was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He was an avid Harley Davidson rider. He was employed as an Operations Manager with Republic Services in Oklahoma. He was married to Cheryl Cunningham on August 8, 2000.
He is survived by his wife Cheryl Akers of Cincinnati; two sons, Calvin D. (Cate) Akers of Cincinnati; and Jeremy (Rita Laird) Cunningham of Chicago; a daughter, Natashia Miller of Cincinnati; two sisters, Karen Akers of Lebanon, Ohio and Kristi (Bob) Akers Edmonds of Cincinnati; a brother, Jeff Akers of Brookville, Indiana; nine grandsons; one great-grandson; two nephews, Michael (Holly) Akers of Cincinnati, and Jason Akers of Cincinnati; three nieces, Heather Akers of Cincinnati, Tanisha Akers of Cincinnati, and Sara Osborne of Cincinnati; and numerous loving other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Andrew Cunningham.
Funeral service will be held at the Newcomer Funeral Home, 7830 Hamilton Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio 45231, on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at 12:00 noon with Pastor Dawn Pendergast officiating. Burial will follow in Arlington Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 AM until time of service.
