Carl Mericle, loving husband, father, grandfather, and minister of the gospel joined his Lord in glory on September 2024. He served four years in the Navy, and was part of the first crew of the USS Enterprise. He served several congregations over the course of five decades in ministry: Pittsburg Mennonite Church (PA), Trissels Mennonite Church (VA), Warwick River Mennonite Church (VA), Warwick Assembly of God (VA), First Assembly of God (VA), and Providence Mennonite Church (VA). Licensed for ministry in 1972, and ordained on August 5, 1979, he also served as a District Minister for the Virginia Mennonite Conference from January 1, 2016, to July 15, 2019, and served on the Human Rights Commission for the city Council of Newport News, VA. He continued a loving and peaceable congregational ministry till his failing health compelled him to retire in May, 2023. Carl loved spending time near the ocean. He loved animals especially his dog Benji.
Carl was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Ellen Mericle, and is survived by his sister Darlene DeSalve, his three children: C. Jason Mericle, David L. Mericle, and Karen Rae Doffing and her husband Nicholas. Grandchildren Heather Sherburne-Mericle, Noah Mericle, Jonah Mericle, Ashleigh Carew, Carl E Doffing, Kiersten Johnson, Matthias, Margaret, Grace, Joseph and Kevin Doffing. He also leaves behind many dearly loved great grandchildren.
A celebration will take place at Providence Mennonite Church in Newport News, VA.
