Cassandra N Burton

December 27, 1984 — April 24, 2020

Cassie passed away suddenly at home on Friday, April 24, 2020. The attending physician believes there was no pain; just here one second and gone with the next breath.

Although neither recall the meeting, Cassie met the sister of her soul one summer day in their second year of life: two little girls standing in my garden in nothing but their blond hair and diapers (said soul-sister having escaped her babysitter across the road); they grew up next door to each other, dreaming and planning from childhood to one day move in together in one of the houses.

I assume they also had a plan for kicking us parents out, but I was afraid to ask. Along the way Cassie picked up a brother-of-the-soul, incorporating him into their dream; and it was while living that exact dream that Cassie left us.

Cassie was a beautiful baby who grew up into a beautiful woman. During childhood she enjoyed Girl Scouts, swimming, soccer, softball, basketball and general tomboy-ery with all the attending injuries. The ER once joked about giving us our own designated parking space.

Mostly enjoyable was growing up between an older and younger brother. She loved them dearly, as a girl then as a woman. The brothers taught her many boyish things and in an area where "rasslin' the fellers fer sport" was a thing; and as everyone who knew her knows, a thing she excelled at. My apologies to that not small number of boys and men whom were surprised; though in fairness, you probably started it so had it coming.

At eleven years of age, she was gifted with a third brother, whom she took great pleasure in playing mommy to, loving him with all her heart as she did her entire family. It might have been that peculiarity all babies share (known as the ungodly volume of dirty diapers) that put her off having children of her own.

Cassie graduated from Kent Central High school, and after some time, got her Bachelor of Science from Northern Kentucky University in her favorite subject - Geology. At sixteen, Cassie got a job at La Rosa's Pizzeria and loved her co-workers and customers so much as both a cook and waitress that she just never left, with many of them loving her right back - she referred to them as her "work family".

Cassie was much beloved by her family but also by nearly everyone who knew her. She is survived by her mother Sharon, brothers Drew, Alex and Zack, grandmother Patricia, aunt Eydie, niece Alexah, uncles Tony and Davey, step-mother Maria, two great aunts, dozens of cousins and more friends than are possible to name.

She once told a college friend, "When I die I want to be buried with a tree so I can live in its branches forever". Be at peace, my heart, and continue living your dream.
