Charles Boachie Kwarteng II was born on August 6, 1982 to Wendy L. Pugh and Charles Boachie Kwarteng. In October of that same year, the family moved "back home" to Blue Ash, Ohio where Wendy was raised. As a very young child, Charles loved to run around with his grandpa, Glenn H. Pugh. And when he wasn't with grandpa, he loved to be with Grandma Grace (Wendy's mom).
He was a very friendly child and he loved animals, especially his dog Sheeba, a red Doberman. Wendy says he may have hugged Sheeba more than her!
In 1984, they moved to Lockland. Charles was very independent and self-motivated. He taught himself how to ride a 2 wheeler on Walnut Street when he was 3 years old because he got tired of running into trees. He loved riding big wheels around the neighborhood with his friends. His grandma taught him to barbeque and his grandpa taught him the right way to fix bikes. At six years old he'd be seen replacing spokes he'd bend while riding and doing small jumps.
He was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints when he was around 8 years old. He loved Cub Scouts, especially when they went canoeing. His favorite hymns were "Onward Christian Soldiers" and "Put Your Shoulder to the Wheel", hymns he would pretend to march to right in the middle of church services. He was a happy boy.
He was liked by so many children because of his kind personality. He made friends with the less fortunate too. One Autistic boy really took a liking to Charles and the feeling was mutual.
Charles was blessed to help watch over two of his little brothers, Terry and James, as they grew up. They would wrestle, he'd wrap them up like pretzels and they became the best of buddies. He adored them. He also kept them in line when they got older. It was important to him that they stayed out of trouble.
He was an adventurer! One day while catching cicadas for his uncles to use as fishbait, he took a dare and ate a chocolate covered cicada! He was great with numbers. He would tally up what was in mom's shopping cart and get it right every time.
He was known for his nicknames: "Little Charles" – funny, because at 6'8" and 300 lbs he was bigger than anyone in the entire family! He was grandma's little " Doolum butt". He was "Charlie Brown", "Big Chocolate", "Chuck", "Big C", "Chizzy", "Big Boy" and "Chief" and "King" due to his father's African heritage.
His most prized possessions in life were the three children he had with Jessica Smith: Kyrah, Kavan and Kahlen. He truly adored those children.
Charles was educated in the Lockland School District and worked as a ride technician for Triple Treats and as a bouncer for Vito's.
During the last few weeks, he was finding his way back to his gospel roots. He passed away peacefully on May 12, 2012. He's likely making some barbeque in heaven with Grandma Grace.
