Charlina B. Copeland, age 78, of Mount Healthy, Ohio passed away on Monday, January 25, 2021. She was born in Norfolk, Virginia on August 24, 1942 to William and Charlina Smith (nee Owens).
Charlina graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Norfolk, VA. She attended Talladega College in Talladega, Alabama. She joined the United States Army in 1961 and served two tours in Vietnam. Charlina went on to retire as a Lieutenant Colonel. She went on to attend and graduate from Jewish Hospital School of Nursing, where she earned her Bachelor in Nursing degree. Charlina retired from the VA Hospital in Cincinnati where she was an RN for many years. Charlina earned the distinguished Florence Nightingale Award for Nursing on April 25, 2000 for her work on PTSD.
She was preceded in death by her parents. Charlina is survived by her beloved daughter, Delreesa Copeland; sister, Thomasine (Cecil ) Ward; niece, Tuanda (Kyle) Holmes; nephew, Selwyn Ward; great-nieces, Zayda and Leila Ward; great-nephew, Kyle Holmes; and a host of other family members and friends.
Family and friends may gather on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at Newcomer Funeral Home, Northwest, 7830 Hamilton Avenue, Mt. Healthy, from 11:00AM to 12:00PM. The funeral service will follow, beginning at 12:00PM. Burial will be at Arlington Memorial Gardens where military honors will be served.
