Charlotte Louise (Lottie) Taylor-Carter, our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother; has imparted five generations of love, and 93 years of wisdom.
Born in Maysville (Mayslick) Kentucky in 1918. Her father, Cornelius Taylor was of Irish heritage; and owned a barbershop and small store. Her mother, Mary Lucy Williams was of English heritage; and was a Christian. Mother Charlotte found salvation at age 12. She had seven brothers and sisters, and was the last surviving sibling.
Charlotte Louise Taylor married Owen Leon Carter in 1936 at eighteen years old in Richmond, Indiana. They were blessed with eight children; four boys and four girls; over twenty-two grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and several great-great grandchildren. Grandmother Charlotte worked outside the home part-time. One of her favorite jobs was working at University of Cincinnati as a pastry cook. She would bring some of the delicious desserts she made home quite often. Charlotte's specialty was pumpkin pie.
Charlotte was a good cook. A wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. She was very pleasant to be around and had a beautiful peaceful spirit. Her wisdom was only surpassed by her humility. Did I mention she was also an athlete whom played center on the girl's basketball team in high school. She was an awesome lover of God; who she always placed first in her life. She would always say in her testimony, "I want to give Honor to "God"; whom is the head of my life"! She had an exceptional soprano voice; very rich and full. She loved gospel music, but not only gospel. She would sometimes listen to country music while she cooked. Her favorite country singer was Loretta Lynn. She had two gospel songs she loved, "How Great Thou Art", and "In The Garden". She also loved the way Mahalia Jackson sang. WE love you "Mam-Maw"! We know you are seated at the foot of the throne of the "King" of Kings and "Lord" of Lords!
Charlotte (Mam-Maw) Carter is survived by seven of her children to consider how spectacularly "God" used her to his "His" Glory! Her children are as follows: Owen Leon Carter, Jr., Lois Yvonne Carter-Crawford, Mary C. Gray, Helen R. Carter-Richmond, Robert C. Carter, Desire' L. Brandon, and Jonathan W. Carter; a granddaughter whom they raised, Theresa Stevenson. A host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren will miss her calming spirit. Amen.
