Ching Tong "Tony" Liang, 64, of Florence Kentucky, passed away surrounded by his loved ones at the home of his sister and brother-in-law, Pi-yen and Ray Carter, on Wednesday (April 22, 2020), after a hard-fought battle with cancer.
He was born September 16, 1955, in Kaohsiung Taiwan, to the late Chih-Chu Liang and survived by Ta-nu Chian. He was a graduate of Lichih Senior Hight School. Since his youth, Liang would help his parents at their restaurant for many years until finally going on to take it over in his mid 20's, all the while still dreaming of starting a new life in the United States. Finally, at the age of 29, Liang made his way to the U.S. to make that dream come true. Liang worked from restaurant to restaurant picking up the essential skills and experience to make Americanized Chinese food, which was something different to him than the traditional Taiwanese cuisine that he grew up cooking. Soon his hard work paid off and he was able to open Dynasty Express right here in the heart of Florence. For 20 years he owned and operated Dynasty until he was ready to retire and move back to Taiwan. He wasn't there long until he started to get restless, the restaurant life was all he knew. So, he moved back to the U.S. and eventually opened up a new restaurant, Chopstix Express, in Lawrenceburg KY. Unfortunately, soon after, his health began to deteriorate and he was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. With such devastating news, he decided to close the restaurant and move back to Florence to be with family.
Surviving are his partner, Cheri Bulthaup. His mother, Ta-nu Chain. His sisters, Po-yen Liang, Pi-yen (Ray) Carter, Chia-yen Liang. His brother, Ching Hsin Liang. His daughter, Sherry (Seth) Liang. His son, Tobi (Amber) Liang. And his youngest daughter, Meagan (Chris) Porter. He is also leaving behind 6 grandchildren, Milly Kai, Hannah, Remmington, Ella, Evelyn, and Fisher.
