Clifton Knox, Sr.

December 5, 1926 — September 13, 2020

Clifton Knox, Sr. was born on December 5, 1926 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Thomas and Madeline Knox. He entered into eternal life on Sunday, September 13, 2020 at the age of 93.

Clifton went to Columbia Elementary and was a graduate of Withrow High School. He served in the United States Army. He was a veteran of World War II and The Korean War. After returning from serving our country, Clifton began working for the United States Postal Service for 31 years. He advanced in his career as a Finance Department Supervisor. After his retirement from the Post Office, he began a second career as a painter and wallpaper hanger. He also loved gardening and his labor of love shined through in the beautiful yard flowers.

Clifton married the late Emma Conley and they had one son, Clifton Knox, Jr., from this union. He later met Rosetta (Rosie) Jett and her daughter Charla, and they would later marry and begin a new chapter.

Clifton was a long and faithful member of The Greater New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Avondale. He served on their Finance Committee Board, College Scholarship Board, and was the church's Videographer. He enjoyed Sunday school, Bible Study, bowling, old jazz music, filming family outings, house parties, Christmas celebrations, and capturing candid photos of loved ones (there were a lot of cut off head shots too!)

Every moment in his life was an event that he seized with his spirit and joy. He rarely met a stranger and did not hesitate to share a story with you.

We are blessed to have had the opportunity to learn many valuable lessons from Papa Cliff (Granddaddy Cliff) during his 93 years on earth. Among them he advised us to "Never throw away chewed gum because it's got the best flavor"; "Today's Wendy's bag will be tomorrow's lunch bag"; "If you know fashion, you wouldn't throw away any of your clothes from the 70's - they will just graduate with you"; "Never worry about what you can't control"; and last but not least, "If someone asks you for a dollar, tell them the bank is closed!"

Clifton Knox, Sr. was preceded in death by his wife, Rosetta Knox. He is survived by two children, Clifton Knox, Jr. (Vineesa), Charla Taylor; eight grandchildren, Dawanda Campbell (Jonathan), Clifton Knox, III (Camille), E'Ban Taylor, John Eric, Marcus, Daniel Lemons, Sharon Scott (Anthony), Shirley Brand (David); twenty one great grandchildren and a host of family and friends. A huge gratitude of love and blessings to his special friend, Esther Williams.

Family and friends may gather on Friday, September 25, 2020 from 10:00AM to 11:00AM at Newcomer Funeral Home, Northwest Chapel, 7830 Hamilton Avenue, Mt. Healthy.
