Colleen Mary Sampson, age 64, passed away peacefully at home in her husband's arms on June 1st, 2021, after a long fight with cancer. She was born on September 23, 1956, in Toledo, Ohio to Patrick and Kathryn Corrigan. She married the love of her life and partner in all things, Damon W. Sampson, on March 29, 1985.
When it came to children, any child in arms reach knew the warmth and love of a hug from Mother/ Aunt/ Grandma/ pseudo–Grandma Colleen. Her home was always a place for gathering, her son Michael Sampson and daughter Devin Petrey would be the first to say there wasn't much time without a cousin or family friend (or ten) in the mix. Colleen took summers off to be with her kids and anyone else's kids who needed tending to. She would fill the 4Runner with the kids and a picnic lunch to head to the Zoo, Kings Island, a local park, Red River Gorge, Gatlinburg, or to Grandma and Grandpa Corrigan's house for a day of playing in the creek. It was always important to Colleen that the kids were well fed, having fun, and having new experiences. Later in life, as a proud grandmother to Michelle Sampson (16), Elli Petrey (15), Aleczander Sampson (12), she would continue some of these same adventures but added in her love for spoiling the kids near rotten. (To name all the children she loved would truly fill the whole page, but you all know who you are!)
Colleen was the Chief Inspector at Tri-State Grain Inspection Service Inc., a position she was proud to hold. Colleen's father, brother, and her husband proceeded her in this role. She prided herself on being a strong woman so Colleen was happy to prove she could fill any of their shoes. As in the past, the torch has been passed on to the next generation and is in the capable hands of Michael Sampson.
In typical Colleen fashion she took care of her family in every way she could. Her stubbornness completely intact to the very end, she made her own arrangements and demanded we follow through with her plans. As she disliked funerals and insisted, we eat, drink and share stories of her life, we will hold a private celebration. Friends and family please join us to fulfill her wishes. A Celebration of Life for Colleen Sampson will be held on Thursday, July 1st, 2021, at The Farm on Anderson Ferry Road from 4:30pm- 7:30pm with a buffet and drinks. Oh, she did ask that we don't believe everything we hear!
In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make a donation in Colleen's name to the American Cancer Association, donate3.cancer.org
