Darnell Jaleel Sumler

Darnell Jaleel "DJ" Sumler, age 33, of Cincinnati, Ohio passed away on Friday, October 14, 2022. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on November 29, 1988 to Marquetta Mason (nee Sumler).

DJ was a stranger to no one and found great purpose sharing in the successes, joys, and challenges of those around him. He was authentically and wholeheartedly there for those in his life. DJ took pride in sharing his love for music and poetry with the world. He had such a bright intellectual personality. He was a wrestling fanatic, WWE Raw was his favorite to watch. DJ loved comedy, especially watching reruns of Martin and The Fresh Prince of Bel Air. DJ had the amazing ability to make everyone laugh. He had a presence that could and always did captivate the room. You could always enjoy a deep conversation with DJ. He was a philosophical thinker and, at times, would get lost in his thoughts; but he used his music to express what he couldn't say in conversation. He was and will always be a lyrical genius. With DJ you always got a good time, a great memory and someone who was authentically themself …

So to DJ, Darnell Jaleel Sumler, our son, brother, father, cousin, friend and loved one this just means we'll miss you until we meet again.

DJ is survived by his mother, Marquetta Mason; father, Donnie Mason; daughter, Ari'yana Moss; sons, Dareion and Kaden Sumler; sister, Donniesha Mason; grandmothers, Gladys (Jessie) Sumler-Paige and Hattie (Raymond) Lee; niece and nephew, Ya'Riah and David; and a host of other family members and friends.

A visitation will be held Sunday, October 23, 2022 from 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm with a service to follow at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Northwest Chapel, 7830 Hamilton Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio 45231.
