David J. Ball, 66, of Reading, loving husband of Diane (Becker) Ball, passed away July 1, 2017. He was born October 26, 1950 in Dayton, Ohio. Loving Father of Jason (Cheryl) Ball and Sean Ball. Pappaw to 3 grandchildren, Haylee, Nate, and Brody Ball, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents Barbara (Messer) and Lawrence Ball, Brother Timothy (Nancy) Ball and his Sister Linda Leibig.
Dave was a lifelong Kentucky Wildcat Fan...he loved his Big Blue, and we all eventually bled blue, as it wasn't hard to do in the Ball Family!
Dave proudly served our country in the United States Air Force Band as an accomplished trombone player. He played with many bands over the years including Doc Severinsen from the Tonight Show and Stan Kenton, along with the local American Legion Band here in Reading. Dave also played guitar, not as well as the trombone, of course, but not bad!
Dave loved the game of baseball, as a matter of fact, he played against Don Gullett in High School. Don threw a one hitter against them and Dave was the only hit in the game, a double at that. He enjoyed playing Rugby, but only for a short time as it was too hard on his knees. Another sport he also loved playing was tennis, he was pretty good at it too. He once met John Denver and played pool with him in the local bar while working in the Rocky Mountains drilling mines...yeah, he did that too!
Dave started out with a music degree at UK and EKU and decided to get into construction instead. He graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management at UC, but still bled blue :) !
We were married for 41 years, Friends on Facebook for 5 years lol, as I was told on Sunday morning July 2nd. Dave was a very loving husband, father, father-in-law, pappaw, brother, uncle, brother-in-law and friend...smart and talented.
He suffered for many years in pain, and in the last 6 months it was getting to be more than he could tolerate. He was a good, kind man. I will miss his corny jokes, and how I could always count on getting the answers for trivia questions, as he always seemed to know everybody and everything that was going on, and how he would always quiz me and the boys with what band was singing the song on the radio, especially if it was "Yes" or "The Who".
I will miss hearing him say "Hi Honey" as he did just about every time I walked in the room. I didn't tell him enough that I loved him, but I'm sure he knew I did as well as his whole family.
RIP Dave...love always... Diane, Sean, Jason, Cheryl, Haylee, Nate, and Brody.
A get together/memorial catered luncheon will be held at the Knights of St. John Hall, 423 Pearl Street, Reading, OH 45215 from 12 to 4 PM, Saturday July 15. Casual summer attire is appropriate.
