Donald Eugene Hall (Don) was born August 5, 1936, to Letcher and Lillian (nee Riddell) Hall in Wisemantown, Kentucky. He would joke and say he was born in the same cabin as Abraham Lincoln. He was the oldest of their five sons including Hargus, Johnny, Fred (Butch), and David Hall.
Don married Joyce Faye Maret on August 25, 1956, and they had five children together: Donald Jr., Donna (known to the family as Sissy), Gregory (Patricia), Tammie (Jeff), and Jeffery. After the birth of their oldest four children, the family moved to Buffalo, New York where Jeff was born. The family often shared stories of snow blizzards and visits to Cincinnati to spend time with family. The family moved back to Cincinnati in 1972 and moved to Shaffer Avenue in Westwood, where Don resided until 2021. Don and Joyce lived close to their large family and many friends they grew up with where they vacationed and lived as a village their whole lives.
Don and Joyce were the proud grandparents of Cherie and Chrissie (Matt) Houchin, Brandy (Ashley), Mark, Megan (John), and Krin (Ben) Hall, and Jonathan Hague. He would tease them and tell them to call him Uncle Don but they affectionately referred to him as Papal. Don loved his grandchildren and they were his pride and joy.
Their grandchildren blessed them with 13 great-grandchildren: Aryannah, Alexis, Juliana, Nate, Janie, Jozie, Ava, Laney, John, Jagger, Jayden, Abigail, and Andrew, respectively.
Don had one great-great-grandson, Breyer.
Don was the owner and operator of Hall's Contractors and was the sole contractor for Sears for HVAC from 1972 until his retirement. Don was a member of the Refrigeration Services Engineers Society. His sons Greg and Jeff worked side-by-side making it a family affair. In 1987, Don, his wife, daughter Sissy, and his brother and sister-in-law, all earned their GEDs together by attending night classes at Western Hills High School. This was a very proud moment for all of them.
Joyce was the love of Don's life and they were happily married for 56 years, until her death on May 8, 2013 when she quietly passed away with Don by her side. In addition to his wife, Don is preceded in death by his parents, his four brothers, his four brother-in-laws, Bill (his wife Pat), Charles, Leslie, and Delano Maret, his sister-in-law, Jean (Maret) Greater (her husband Fred), his son Jeff, and his great-great-grandson.
Don is also survived by his brother-in-law, Mike (Debbie) Maret, and more nieces and nephews than he could count.
Visitation will be at Newcomer Funeral Home, West Side Chapel, 3300 Parkcrest Lane, Cincinnati (45211) on Thursday, March 30, 2023 from 10 AM until the funeral service at 11 AM. Burial will follow in Baltimore Pike Cemetery.
