Donald J. Mertens

Donald J. Mertens, age 83 of Harrison passed away on Thursday, September 13, 2012. He was born in Cincinnati on April 22, 1929 the son of Jerome and Rose (Yuellig) Mertens. Donald was a veteran with the United States Army serving during WWII and the Korean War. He was a member of The Grand Lodge of F. & A.M. of Ohio, North Bend Lodge # 0346, American Legion Post #199, and a member of the VFW. He was married to Mary Jane King, who preceded him in death in 2005.

He is survived by two sons, Donald (Debbie) Mertens of Cincinnati, Ronald (Barb) Mertens of Cincinnati; two daughters, Mary (Elmer) Bowman of Camden, Ohio, and Ruth Bevins of Bradenton, Florida; eleven grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Mary Jane; and two sisters, Katie and Deloris.

Funeral service will be held at the Newcomer Funeral Home, 7830 Hamilton Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio 45231, on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at 11:00 AM with Pastor James R. Love officiating. Burial will follow in Arlington Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM.
