Doris Marie Schehl (Rebel) was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on June 17, 1922 to Theresa and Anthony Rebel. She was one of eight children and her siblings include, Tony, Ivo, Eddie, Carl, Mildred, and Rosella and she is survived by her brother, Paul.
Doris married William Kenneth Schehl on May 12, 1943 at St. Boniface Church in Northside and was happily married for 56 wonderful years. Doris and Bill had six children together, Michael (deceased, married to Joyce), Steven (Pam), Mary (Greg), Elaine (Richard), Patty (Mark) and Pamela (Mike). Doris, Bill, and first son Mike moved to Mt. Healthy in 1952 and two days later Bill went off to the Korean War while Doris stayed home, pregnant with Steve, to hold down the fort. Over the years, many great memories were made in this house and Doris would live here in "good Ole Mt. Healthy," as she would say, for the next 66 years. She went on to have many grandchildren and great-grandchildren and you would often find her swinging on her front porch with them or hear piano music coming from her home, as they would love to visit and play with her. Her large family was her pride and joy. She cherished and adored her grandchildren, Christy, Terri, Micah, Bill, Tim, Becky, Nick, Jeff, Mary Elizabeth, Michelle, Melissa, Matt, Allison, K.C., Melissa, Josh, Mandy, Katie, Lisa, Amy, Brian and great-grandchildren, Blake, Paige, Hope, Leahbella, Miriam, Ethan, Anna, Conor, Alex, Gracie, Joey, Lakin, Annette, Zach, Hannah, Charlotte, Mady, Lucy, Paxton, Hudson, Griffin, Georgia, Peyton, Hailey, Austin, Riley, Aaron, Matthew, Kennedy, Charlie, and Rizzo.
Doris was a devout Catholic and would walk in the rain or snow to Mass. She loved Church of the Assumption and for many years was active in the Legion of Mary and held bible study at her house. The rosary was very dear to her heart, and in fact, made them for not just her friends and family but for children learning the Catholic faith. Doris enjoyed playing cards. Thousands of card games were held over the years at the dining room table of her home and countless Angilo's pizzas and specials were consumed. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Doris truly lived her faith, always had a smile and never had an unkind word for anyone. She was welcomed home to Heaven on January 7, 2019 and was the best mom, grandma, and great-grandma in the world.
Mass will be 11:00 am Friday, January 11, 2019 with a visitation from 10:00 am - 11:00 am at Church of the Assumption, 7711 Joseph Street, Cincinnati, Ohio 45231.
