What an honor it is to be remembered as a courageous, kind-hearted, brave and honorable man. A man who never had an enemy. A man who gave to those not as fortunate as himself, be it money or time or just a gentle touch or smile. This man was my grandfather.
Born to Nannie Mae Sturgill and Barry Price, Doyal had a life-long relationship with God. He served his country proudly as a member of the Air Force. What a feat for a black man in a country so filled with hate and bigotry at that time. Upon his arrival back to the States he met his beautiful wife of forty-eight years, Annie Mae Porter, who, like his mother and father, preceded him in death. He had a degree as a Taylor and worked as a construction worker at Carl Bausch & Son.
He leaves behind to mourn him three grandchildren, Rosalind Starddard Lancaster, Gregory Wayne Starddard, and Debra Starddard Pressley; four great-grandchildren, Lawrence Tsuneo Lancaster, Shelby Pressley, Kendra Nicole Pressley, and Brooklyn Roberta Pressley; and a host of friends and acquaintances.
We will miss his response when asked how he was doing. His reply would always be, "I'll do for a young man," and that gentle smile while saying it.
Daddy we love and miss you so much. Rest in peace and embrace the Lord, for we know you no longer feel any pain or sorrow. Your whole world is now pure happiness and eternal sunshine. Until we all meet again…
