Ernestine M. Gwode was born July 16, 1939 to the late Richard and Inez Lackey. She was the oldest girl in a family of eight children. Ernestine was raised in a loving household and adored her extended family members as well. Because of that, she had a large and compassionate heart towards her children – Bernice, Ailene and LaTonya. She loved the Lord, her entire family and she especially loved her grand and great-grandchildren. She managed to equally distribute an inordinate amount of love and affection to each of her six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. They were all her favorite. They all gave her great joy.
Ernestine graduated from Central High School in Cincinnati and was married to Charles Alexander Jones soon after. She worked outside of the home for the Cincinnati School Board, from where she retired. In 1997 she was introduced to and later married to Royal "Bo" Gwode.
Ernestine accepted the Lord Jesus as her personal Savior and joined the Golden Leaf Baptist Church of Cincinnati. She loved the Lord and she loved her pastor, Reverend Carl Adkins. She believed the Bible and practiced the truths of it.
Ernestine loved to travel. After raising her children, she began her traveling exploits with her brother Jerome and his wife. They traveled throughout the country enjoying the benefits of flying the skies.
During her last few years, she encountered health issues but never once did she stray from God. She fought the good fight of faith. She believed that He would heal her to the very end….and He did. Ernestine peacefully walked into her healing and the Kingdom of God surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday morning, May 9th, 2012.
Although she is with her heavenly Father now, Ernestine leaves to mourn three children – Bernice, Ailene and LaTonya. The six grandchildren whom she loved - Demetrius, Ricky, Vito, Ebony, Carson and Devonda.
