Fritz Meyer

Frederick "Fritz" Meyer, age 80, passed away suddenly on December 20, 2023. Fritz was born on March 16, 1943 in Cincinnati. He attended St. William grade school and Elder High School, graduating in 1961. He graduated from the University of Cincinnati in 1965 with a degree in education.

Fritz played on UC's basketball team from 1961-1965, an era where the Bearcats were NCAA champions in 1962 and runners-up in 1963. Fritz began his career as a teacher and basketball coach at several grade schools and high schools before eventually reaching the college ranks at Urbana College and then the University of Akron. He spent several years in sales in the Akron area before returning to Cincinnati, where he was an assistant coach with the Elder High School basketball team, including their state championship in 1993. He was also well-known in his role as the Hamilton County Jury Commissioner. In retirement, Fritz loved attending his grandchildren's athletic and academic events and was an avid basketball fan, regularly attending UC games and organizing alumni events.

Fritz was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Ann (Drennan) and Frederick "Wiz" Meyer; sisters-in-law Patty Peck and Peggy Sexton; and brother-in-law Jim Corcoran. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Kathy (Corcoran) Meyer; children Chris (Mary) Meyer, Brad (Michelle) Meyer, and Kim (Steve) Stigler; grandchildren Rachel, Meredith, Erin, and Kristen Meyer, and Stephen, Sydney, Ryan, and Derek Stigler; brothers Jerry (Lysle) Meyer and Tim (Joyce) Meyer, and sister Gale Noel (Lee Slocum); sisters- and brothers-in-law Chuck Peck, Don Sexton, Jo Corcoran, Mimi (Denny) Borchers, Shelly (Dick) Jennings and Joanie (Jim) Schroth, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Newcomer Cremations, Funeral and Receptions, West Side Chapel, 3300 Parkcrest Lane, Cincinnati, OH (45211) on Friday, December 29 from 9:00 am-12:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:15pm at St. William Catholic Church with Fr. Ralph Westerhoff as the celebrant. Memorial donations can be made in Fritz's memory to Elder High School, 3900 Vincent Avenue Cincinnati, OH 45205. Please no flowers.
