Gary Lloyd Smart

Gary Lloyd Smart, age 79, of Florence, Kentucky passed away on Thursday, December 7, 2023. He was born in Carlisle, Kentucky on June 24, 1944 to Millard and Ruby Smart. He served in the army from 1965 to 1968, stationed in Fort Knox and later worked as a mail man with the United States Postal Service for 30+ years. In retirement, he worked for Florence Baptist Church, as well as volunteering many hours at the church and schools.

Gary was the best papaw, dad, and husband. He loved his family more than anything and always enjoyed spending time with them. Gary was also a jack of all trades, he enjoyed many hobbies such as; writing poems, drawing, carpentry, fishing, gardening, and singing hymns. He was an active member of the Florence Baptist Church where he spent much of his time after retirement.

Remember Gary in your hearts as a talented writer, having his own book of poetry published right before he passed, "From God to Me to You". Remember him as a man of faith, always reading his daily bible verses and remember him as the goofy guy always telling the best jokes. Hold tight to the memories, the laughs, the joy that he brought to you.

He was preceded in death by his father, Millard Smart; mother, Ruby Smart; sister, Betty Faulkner; and brother, Don Smart. Gary is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Glenna Smart (nee Kain); daughter, Kelli (Paul) Jackson; son, Todd (Melanie) Smart; granddaughters, Elizabeth Kannady, Maliah (Cory) Farris, Mariah (Austin) Vann, Brittany Smart, Faith Smart, Hannah Smart; great-grandchildren, Alayna, Corbin, Everly, CT; sister, Joyce Mahler; and a host of other family members and friends.

A visitation will be held Tuesday December 12, 2023 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Northern Kentucky Chapel, 4350 Dixie Highway, Erlanger, Kentucky 41018. A funeral service will begin at 12:00 pm at the funeral home. Gary will be interred at Burlington Cemetery.
