Mr. George W. Joppeck, Jr., a Walton resident, passed away on Friday, December 2, 2022 at the age of 70.
George was born on January 10, 1952, to the late George W. Joppeck, Sr. and Vivian Knepper Joppeck. He graduated from Wellington High School and completed his technical schooling. He retired as an Electronic Maintainer for CSX Railraod with more than thirty years of service. He married his bride Violet on April 28, 1979 at Garrard St. church of Christ where they first met. They were blessed with a daughter, Jennifer, a year later. Four years later, they met their adopted daughter, Stephanie, when she was three weeks of age. A faithful and humble servant of God, he accepted and served as an elder for three congregations, the Richland Rd. church of Christ in Marion, Ohio, the Kenton church of Christ in Kenton, Ohio and most recently with Grant County church of Christ in Dry Ridge, Kentucky. Besides his love for his wife and two daughters and their husbands, his grandchildren were his pride and joy and he always knew how to make them laugh. He enjoyed working the soil and planting a garden and attending to his many beehives over the years. The church and the study of the Word were true passions of his life. Even after his sight was gone, he continued as a song leader for many years as he knew many of the words by memory.
George is survived by his loving wife of forty-three years, Violet, two daughters, Jennifer Spain (Jason) of Richwood, Ohio and Stephanie Kirby (Josh) of Lebanon, Tennessee, brothers and sisters Sue Crites, Debra Yoder, John Joppeck (Louise), Dwayne Joppeck (Kim), Barbara Gray, Sharon Hill (Steve) and Donna Zsigray (Steve), his five grandchildren, Matthew, Patrick, and Katherine Spain and Walker and Lydia Kirby, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Sandra Popejoy.
A Celebration of Life visitation and service will be held Tuesday, December 6, beginning at 11:30 a.m. at the Grant County church of Christ in Dry Ridge, KY. Bro. Jason T. Carter will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, Memorials are suggested to the furtherance of the work of the church at Grant County church of Christ at 205 Hopperton Lane, Dry Ridge, KY 41035.
