George W. "Popeye" Duke Sr., age 63 of Hamilton passed away on January 2, 2013 at Fort Hamilton Hospital. He was born in Cincinnati on November 30, 1949 the son of Willie Hyde and Rosa Lee (Gooch) Mc Day. On November 21, 1982 in New Miami, Ohio he was married to Carmen R. Snowden.
He is survived by his wife, Carmen Duke of Hamilton; three daughters, Lawana Atkinson of Sharonville, Naytasha Duke of Sharonville, and Kimberly Duke of Hamilton; three sons, Troy Hall and his wife Michelle of Cincinnati, George Waymon Duke Jr. of Hamilton, and Lamar Duke; one brother, Jesse L. McDay of New Miami, Ohio; twelve sisters, Mary E. Hyde of Lincoln Heights, Ohio, Rosa Lee Strayhorn of Avondale, Cora Warford of Evanston, Ohio, Louanna Frances White and her husband Harold of Lincoln Heights, Laverne Gordon and her husband Denman of Jacksonville, Florida, Jessie McDay of Cincinnati, Priscilla Mann and her husband Tony of Hamilton, Ella Richardson and her husband Milton of New Miami, Ohio, Marie McDay of Fairfield, Barbara McDay of Hamilton, Dora Winters of Roselawn, and Darlisa Kemp of Lincoln Heights, Ohio; his step-mother, Marie Kemp of Detroit, Michigan; five grandchildren, Cass, Troy, Tori, Josh, and J.J; one great-grandson; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; step-mother, Anna Hyde; two sisters, Nancy Lee Ephfram and Elsie McDay; and five brothers, Joe Robert Duke, James William Duke, Paul McDay, Leroy Hyde, and Mark Kemp.
Funeral service will be held at the Newcomer Funeral Home, 7830 Hamilton Avenue, on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in Butler County Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM.
