Geraldine A White

January 9, 1949 — October 29, 2016

Gearldine Curtis White was born on January 9, 1949 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Maylon and Mary Pearl Curtis in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was devotedly married to Pastor Edward Lewis White (deceased) on August 31, 1973 for 42 years. She confessed her love for Christ as a young woman and remained an active and faithful member of True Holiness Church God of Mt. Auburn until her passing on Saturday, October 29, 2016, at VITAS Healthcare Inpatient Hospice Unit at The Drake Center, Cincinnati, Ohio, due to acute renal failure.

Gearldine was preceded in death by her husband, Pastor Edward Lewis White, parents, Maylon Curtis and Mary Pearl Curtis Roundtree, and siblings Martha Cunningham (Frank), Rena Bell (Charles) Evelyn Curtis, Dwight Douglas Curtis, and leaves to honor her life Marylyn Washington, Mary Helen Burgess, Garland Curtis (Sharon) Elnora Johnson (Tyrone) and her only son, and pride and joy, Mailon Lear Curtis.

She graduated from Robert A. Taft High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. After various training and educational opportunities, Gearldine pursued a career in counseling children and youth at Memorial Community Center. Later in her career she was employed with the U.S. Internal Revenue Service as a Clerk Specialist until her retirement.

Gearldine was an active lay member of the Interdenominational Ministers' Alliance and served as the organization's secretary until her health began to fail. She was also secretary and a founding member of the Fred Shuttlesworth Chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference of Cincinnati. Other organizations include member of the Cincinnati Unit of the NAACP and regular attendee of the famed Gospel Jamboree Interdenominational Fellowship in Ridgeland, SC, an annual event that brings Christians together in fellowship of all denominations. But her most passionate activity was mentoring young people. She also planned and coordinated elaborate anniversary banquets for her church that many prominent citizens attended such as Judge Leslie Isaiah Gaines, Bishop Abraham Isaac Jacob Swanson, and Dr. O'dell Owens.

Gearldine was an ordained Evangelist by the True Holiness Church of God and loved the Lord and the Lord's church. When she gave her life to Christ, she dedicated it fully to God's work and to His Glory. She loved people, although her disposition might say otherwise. For instance when she was a child, Mother Roundtree may have said, " Gearldine, do not step down from the curb, and do not cross the street?" However, when her mother looked up again, Gearldine would be down from the curb and across the street. Gearldine would give you the shirt off of her back; and did just that for many. She especially loved young people and developed a ministry for at-risk girls at the Amistad Family and Life Center in Cincinnati, OH.

She leaves to mourn her grandchildren, Dominique Curtis, Joseph McCollum, Jamela Hummous, Nakia Woods and Ariana Curtis, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends to include a special cousin, Ms Elaine Holt, and friends Denise Thomas, Saber Duskin, Edith Thrower, and Tina Brady.
