Gregory Roger Gibson, known to family and friends as "Dickie", was born on August 27, 1946 in Cincinnati, Ohio and he departed his life on Thursday, October 6, 2011 after a long battle with emphysema.
"Dickie" graduated from Central High School in 1964 where he played trumpet in the band. He also played on the football team during those four years. This is where he acquired his cooking skills, graduating from the culinary science program.
He was accepted into the police cadet program, but later decided to join the Marine Corps. He served three years, thirteen months in Vietnam. He was a specialist in Communications. After serving his county, he worked for Cincinnati Bell Telephone Company for 29 years. After retiring, he later worked for ADT and later retired.
Dickie was married to Jennifer Lindsay in 1971 and from this union, one child was born, Jamila Gibson.
Dickie was an honorary member of the St. John Baptist Church of Arverne Queens New York, where he had visited several times recently in spite of his health. some may remember that he played football with a semi-pro team known as the "Black Panthers" here in Cincinnati, ohio. he was a fun person who loved life, loved to travel, cook and make people laugh. He loved his family most of all. Greg had been a member and treasurer of the Queen city lodge #1660.
Left to cherish his memory are his mother, Louella Gibson; his wife Doris Jones-Gibson; one daughter, Jamila Carter; two son, Antoine Livers (Denene) and Jonah Gibson; sister, Bonnie (Tom) Jamison; one brother, Gano (Vanessa) Gibson; three grandchildren, Samira Carter, Amirs Livers, and Jaiden Lovers; three aunts, Mae Gibson, Goldie Edwards, and Deloroes Crum, along with a host of other family and friends. His father Nelson Gibson preceded him in death.
