Harmon Johnson, age 80 of Cincinnati passed away July 22, 2020 at his home. He was born near Prestonsburg, Kentucky on February 8, 1940 to Tom and Avenelle (Hubbard) Johnson. Harmon left Kentucky as a teenager and after briefly living in Columbus and Dayton, Ohio, came to Cincinnati in 1959 and worked for nearly 60 years in the drywall, plaster and painting trades. In 1995, he formed Johnson Plastering and Painting and operated it until 2017. On July 26, 1961, Harmon married Mary Jean Anderson in Martin, Kentucky.
Harmon is survived by his loving wife of almost 59 years Mary; his children, Robert H. (Stephanie) Johnson, Michael (Joan) Johnson, Christopher Johnson, and Alexandra (Mark) Singleton; grandchildren, Charlotte (Justin) James, Robert H. Johnson Jr., Adriana Johnson, Holly Johnson, Christopher Johnson Jr., Thomas Johnson, Allyson Johnson, Sean Singleton and Payton Johnson; great-grandchildren, Jessie, Raeghan, and Ryleigh James, McKenna Mills, and Audrey Mills. He is also survived by one sister, Mary Emma Ousley of Prestonsburg. He was preceded in death by one child, Joe (Josie) Johnson, his parents, 8 brothers and 2 sisters.
Harmon loved bluegrass music and reading. He attended High School in Columbus during his junior year to learn horticulture and fell in love with planting and growing his gardens and orchards at his home.
A celebration of Harmon's rich life will take place on Saturday, August 1, 2020 at Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home in Martin, Kentucky. Visitation will be held from 12:00 pm-2:00 pm. Memorial service will be at 2:00 pm followed by burial at the Johnson-Hubbard Cemetery located on Spurlock Creek Road near Prestonsburg Kentucky.
