Helen June Needles (nee Chitwood) passed away peacefully Tuesday night at Hospice of Cincinnati Mercy Western Hills after a brief illness. Helen was born in Oneida, Tennessee, but moved to Cincinnati while in her late teens. She served in the United States Navy before marrying the love of her life, William F. Needles. She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 62 years, Bill Needles; her parents, Claudia and Calvin Chitwood, and seven brothers and sisters. She is survived by her children, Susan (Bill) Unger, Kathy (Jack ) Helton, and Bill (Kay ) Needles, and her constant companion, Snowball. Helen was loving grandmother to Chad, Erikka, Melissa, Dan, Devon, Stephen, Phillip, Emily, and David, and beloved GG to Kendell, Luke, Peytton, Cade, Henry, Maddox, Parker, Jaxson and Molly.
Helen's true passion in life was art. An accomplished painter she showed her work at the Closson and Chidlaw Galleries, among other Cincinnati art galleries, as well as having her art exhibited at Cincinnati's Art on the Square, and in galleries across the United States. Helen was a gifted local artist whose paintings were featured in numerous national art magazines including "The Artist's Magazine " and "Artist's Salon". She also designed a pig for Cincinnati's Big Pig Gig, and was a frequent contributor of paintings to the Ronald McDonald House.
