Howard Ricky Reed, Sr. born September 5, 1953 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Howard Jones and Annie Reed. He was the 6th of 9 children, two of whom preceded him in death - Deitra Crowell and Darryl Reed. Ricky received Christ at the early age of 16, and was an active member of Memorial Baptist Church until his health failed him. He sung in the Church Choir, member of the Usher Board, Trustee, Deacon Board, Chairman of Board of Directors and Founder of the Dutton & Anderson Scholarship Fund.
Ricky attended the Cincinnati Public School System; graduating from Hughes High School in 1972. He continued his education attending the Ohio School of Applied Science. He was joined in Holy Matrimony to Brenda (Wooten) Reed on December 24th, 1974, two children were born into this union. Ricky joined the Cincinnati Fire Department in June of 1980. He served as a Lieutenant, Captain and a District Chief before retiring in January 2011.
He was a member of the Cincinnati African American Fire Fighters Association, a member of the Black Male Coalition, NAACP, Local 48 Union, and several other organizations. Ricky received the Leon Evans Award in 2001, Community Service Award in 2000, The Oscar Armstrong III award in 2006 and the Appreciate Award from the Fire Lieutenant Candidates study group. On March 9th 2014 at 10:37 am. after a courageous battle with heart complications, he was called home to be with his Lord and Savior.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his devoted wife and mother of his children – Brenda (Wooten) Reed; son-Howard Richard Reed Jr.; daughter–Sheena Monique Reed; one-granddaughter – Amoriyah Quiana Reed; two brothers-Pastor, Ralph J. Reed Sr, (Ruth) and Michael Paul Reed Sr.; four sisters; Alberta Green, Linda Crawford, Marie Campbell, and Renee Cannon, In-laws and a host of nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
