Hurley Slaughter Jr., was born to the late Hurley Slaughter Sr., and Inez Johnson-Slaughter on January 18, 1937 in Evergreen, Louisiana.
Hurley came to Cincinnati, Ohio in 1959. He was employed at Sawbrook Steel Company in 1962 and retired in 1996 after 34 years of service. On October 23, 1971 he was united in marriage to Frances Spurling Slaughter. To this union he gained five step-children.
Hurley was baptized at the Church of God in Christ in Evergreen, Louisiana at an early age. In 1977, Hurley joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church. In the 1990's he joined the male choir at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where he enjoyed singing for the Lord. Hurley loved his family and friends. But most of all he loved to fish. He waited impatiently for the fishing season every year, he went fishing up to the last 2 years of his life, until his health began to fail.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Herschel Slaughter and one sister, Doreatha Slaughter.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory, his wife of 41 years, Frances Spurling Slaughter; 2 step-sons, Gregory Gunn and Byron Gunn; 3 step-daughters, Gayle Hall (Mike), Rae Jean Gunn and Valerie Gunn; 10 step-grandchildren, Rhonda Jordan, Kenny Gunn, Damont Gunn, Thembi Hall (Sarah), Tishina Wilson, Ameenia Pritchett, Cardell Barefield, Jameeka Barefield, Diante James and Donquis James; 15 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren; 3 sisters-in-law, Georgia Calhoun, Juanita Southand, Eunice Slaughter, all of Cincinnati, Ohio. He also leaves behind 1 sister, Equilla Wallace; 1 special cousin, Genevieve Benjamin, 1 aunt, Willamae Goudeau and a host of other relatives, all in Louisiana and a very special friend, Dooley Hurley. Hurley will truly be missed by many family and friends.
