Idabelle Irene Davenport "Ida", age 7, of Boone, North Carolina became one with the force on Monday, January 23, 2023. She completed our family when she was born in Cape Girardeau, Missouri on September 1, 2015. Ida is survived by her loving parents, Jon M. Davenport and Jenny K. Davenport (nee Fiedler); her goblin sisters, Leoria Davenport and Estalee Davenport; grandparents, Carol Fiedler, Sharon Davenport and Charles Davenport; and a host of other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, David Fiedler.
Ida was an incredibly brave warrior. She had defeated stage 4, high-risk Neuroblastoma by age 3, before delayed effects from her cancer treatments emerged after her 6th birthday. Treatment options for her progressive pulmonary fibrosis were quickly exhausted and she was listed for a lung transplant with Cincinnati Children's Hospital less than a year later. Ida overcame insurmountable odds during her last fight, including waiting more than 4 months in the Cardiac ICU and receiving a lung transplant January 3, 2023. But her medical issues did not define her, and the resilience of our fierce, sassy fighter amazed everyone around her. She was sweet and strong, goofy and stubborn, witty and generous, and wise beyond her years. She loved to play, dispensed infamous smiles and scowls alike, and astutely observed everything around her. She was a resilient force of nature that will never be forgotten.
Ida loved Star Wars, Legos, magical creatures, owls, flamingos, and everything pink. She adored playing with her sisters, making up elaborate stories and games, exploring the outdoors, playing in their forts and woodland kitchens, and staying up past bedtime creating mashed-up fairytales with them. She enjoyed baking with her mom and finding anything other than salamanders with her dad. She shared the love of reading with her entire family and embraced school when she attended pre-K at Valle Crucis Elementary School, and Kindergarten and 1st grade at the Watauga Virtual Academy. She also loved playing video games and creating art with her sisters, camping and star watching, sledding in winter and catching fireflies in the summer, and going to the beach with family. She enhanced every experience, and will always be in our hearts and memories.
A Celebration of Life will be generously hosted by Grandfather Mountain, 2050 Blowing Rock Highway, Linville, NC 28646 and held in the Classroom in the Clouds, located at the Wilson Center for Nature Discovery Building, on February 11th with visitation from 4-6 pm, and reflections at 6 pm.
