Irene Sweeney

Irene Joyce Sweeney, passed away at Madonna Manor in Villa Hills, KY, on December 2, 2023, at the age of 88. Joyce was preceded in death by her loving husband James E. Sweeney, and her parents Herman and Marjorie Holmstrom who are celebrating her arrival in heaven. Joyce was born in Brooklyn NY in 1935, however she spent most of her life in Southern California. After her retirement, James and she moved to Spring Lake, NC where she stayed until the passing of James. Joyce is survived by her 6 children, Van Thomas Garrett, 2nd (Lynnda), Marjorie Adele Garrett, Frances Kathleen Griffin (William), Virginia Ann Jones (Timothy), Veronica Irene Hussey (Curtis), William James Garrett (Lisa), 13 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, and many other beloved she called hers, and who called her "Mom". Joyce was a happy, positive person, and was loved by all who knew her. Joyce had many talents, an enormous laugh, and a gentle touch. Joyce's favorite job was working at Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo, California. She loved Bingo, slot machine poker, reading, the Price is Right, and thrifting. She will be greatly missed, but is now comfortably in God's arms, probably playing bingo. Joyce will be interred at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Erlanger KY. There will be a celebration of life in May 2024.
