James Carter

January 3, 1947 — March 17, 2015

James I. Carter was born on January 3, 1947 to Raymond Sr. and Elizabeth Dixon Carter in Cairo, Kentucky, being second oldest of six children. He learned to farm at the age of 7, drive before 11, and fight before 13. James went to Douglas High School before being drafted into the Vietnam War in 1966. He was shot and honorably discharged. Before leaving Kentucky, he had two daughters, destined to go to Ohio to live with his aunt and cousins. Having twins before meeting his soul mate, Flora Carter, being together for 39 years and having the last of three children.

James was really big on family togetherness. He indulged himself in his wife, siblings, and children; later his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved Jazz music, fishing, bowling, sharing knowledge, and traveling to different countries.

He was dedicated to being the man that others should aspire to be. He was a man of God. He will be missed by all who knew him and loved by all that stood with him.

To hold his hand during his journey are his parents, Raymond Sr. and Elizabeth Carter; his younger brother, Raymond Carter Jr.

Those that are keeping his legacy going are his wife, Flora L. Carter; children, Janice Johnson, Pamela Rowe, Angela Bennie, James L. Bennie, Alestina Carter, Elizabeth S. Carter, and Teika Carter; 19 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; siblings, Leroy Carter, Jeanette McGuire, Alestene Matthews, David Carter, and Earl Carter; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
