James Edward Smiley Sr. was born on September 28, 1946 to Mae Will Young and James Smiley in Detroit, Michigan. He retired from AK Steel in 2005 where he worked for 38 years on the Railroad and Zink Grip. He was married to Rose Smiley and she preceded him in death in March 2012.
He leaves to cherish his memory two sons, Carson Lee Smiley and James (Julia) Smiley Jr., both of Middletown; one step-daughter, Patricia (Dallas) Griffin of Middletown; eight sisters, Ernestine (Arthur) Miles of New Miami, Doris Smiley of Dayton, Mary Smiley-Moore of Middletown, Lubertha Smiley of Cincinnati, Janice Lovett, Linda (Lamar) Pilgrim, Gloria (Myron) Slaughter, and Deloris (Shawn) Burch, all of Hamilton; four brothers, Monroe Smiley, Robert (Velma) Smiley, Stanley E. Smiley, and William Smiley, all of Hamilton; twelve grandchildren; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and many, many friends; and one special Auntie Margaret Smiley of Hamilton. He was preceded in death by his parents; spouse; and a sister, La-Vonn Blair.
