James Russell Mays

James Russell Mays, age 76, of Cincinnati, Ohio passed away on Saturday, November 19, 2022. He was born in Calhoun City, Mississippi on December 18, 1945 to Russell and Ella Mae Mays (nee Lawrence).

He was preceded in death by his mother, his father, his son Christopher J Mays and his brothers, Jimmy C Mays and Donnie Mays, and special brother-in-law Dwight Oden and sister-in-law Bonnie Tyus.

James is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Patricia E Mays (nee Oden).

He is the father of Latrice Y Mays, and grandfather of James Cameron Mays, Jenice N Mays, and Jala L Mays. James is the brother of Mary Alice Jones, Henry L (Lois) Mays, William D (Claudia) Mays, Johnny Mays, Stevie (Marlo) Mays, Pamela (Steven) Wilson and Stanler (Crystal) Mays

James graduated from South Calhoun High School then enlisted in the United States Airforce. After being honorable discharged, he moved to Toledo OH where he resided with his aunt and uncle; Mary, J.V. Lawrence and family.

After moving to Toledo, OH James started work with Kaiser Aluminum while he also enrolled in college. James continued his education while later being employed with UPS. He graduated from Owens Tech Community college in 1988 where he received his Associates Degree in Electrical Engineering. After graduating, James worked at Unisys until he retired. James enjoyed singing and fishing but loved playing basketball in his earlier years in and out of high school.

James was a member and Deacon of Manifested Word Church under the pastorate of Bishop Randall Parker III until relocating to Nashville, TN. James returned to OH relocating to Cincinnati in June of 2022.

Visitation will be Saturday, November 26, 2022 at Newcomer Funeral Home, West Side Chapel, 3300 Parkcrest Lane, Cincinnati (45211) from 11 AM until the funeral service at 12 Noon. Private burial at a later date.
