James Carvin "Jim" Rice, age 90, of Erlanger, Kentucky passed away on Sunday, June 27, 2021. He was born in Van Lear, Kentucky on November 27, 1930 to Russell Gaines and Alpha Rice (nee Bowe).
Jim was an avid fisherman and valued the time fishing with his family. He loved to read and was an advocate for education. He would often encourage his children and grandchildren to read, pursue an education, and visit the public library. His favorite author being Isaac Asimov who wrote "I, Robot". Jim enjoyed being outdoors and would go camping often with his family. He liked listening to music, especially The Beatles, The Eagles, and Bob Dylan. Additionally, Jim was a huge fan of his alma mater, University of Kentucky, and particularly loved watching UK Basketball. Jim retired from General Electric in 1992 after over 25 years of working as an Electrical Engineer in charge of quality of jet engines. He faithfully served in our nation's Air Force for four years in the early 1950's as a radar operator. Above all he was proud of his family and loved each of them. He would willingly watch all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren without any hesitation.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Levita Wells, Russell Rice, Randy Rice, Darryl Rice, and Gloria Rice.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Mildred Rice (nee Morris); daughter, Rebecca (Terry) Sams; son, James D. Rice; brother, Bob (Dixie) Rice; grandchildren, Tracy Ress, Derek Sams, Jacqlyn Sams, Gabriel Sams; great-grandchildren, Caleb Ress, Connor Ress, Caliana Ress; and a host of other family members and friends.

A visitation will be on Saturday, July 3, 2021 from 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Northern Kentucky Chapel, 4350 Dixie Highway, Erlanger, Kentucky 41018. Funeral Ceremony will follow at 2:30 pm
