Jernice Capell

Jernice (Griffin) Capell was born on April 1, 1940 to the late Ollie Lee Scaife and Frank Griffin. She went to her heavenly home Monday, December 11, 2017. Jernice was born in Barbour County, Alabama.

Jernice and Douglas have known each other since childhood , they grew up together in Clio, Alabama. They were married in September of 1955, to this union they were blessed with 5 children; Gene, Tony, Cheryl, Virginia, and Denise.

Jernice and Douglas moved to Cincinnati, OH in January 1956. She was employed at the Good Samaritan Hospital as a Nurses Assistant for 26 years. Jernice was a quiet and reserved woman who enjoyed cooking, crossword puzzles, her house plants, shopping from Network T.V., and old music all of which she did until her health began to fail her.

Jernice was preceded in death by her brothers; Frank Griffin Jr., Milton Griffin; sister, Betty Hornes; daughter, Cheryl Edmonds; great grandson, Allen Capell Jr.; and son-in-law, George Edmonds.

She leaves to cherish her memories her loving and devoted husband of 62 years, Douglas Capell; children, Gene Capell, Tony Capell, Virginia Capell, Denise Capell-McClellan (Keith); 15 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; sister, Esther Alexander of Winter Haven, FL; aunt, Alberta Thurmond of Miami, FL.; sister-in-laws, Jennie Davis, Cincinnati, OH and Hattie Malcone of Patriot, IN; brother-in-laws, Tellis Capell, San Deigo, CA, Thomas Capell, Cincinnati, OH; and a host of extended family and friends.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 am - 11:00 am on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at Newcomer West Side Chapel, 3300 Parkcrest Lane, Cincinnati, Ohio 45211. Funeral ceremony will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, December 21, 2017 at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery.
