Jewel Pearl Copes was born on August 4, 1947 to the late Ophelia Coleman-Oliver and Sol Oliver in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Jewel was a people person with a huge heart and magnetic personality. She lived her life in service to others, and will be remembered by many for her unselfish acts. Jewel was also a deeply devoted wife, mother, and grandmother; who was affectionately known by her grandchildren as "Na-Na." She enjoyed entertaining family and friends in her home on holidays and any other day she managed to make special. Through the up's and down's of life Jewel maintained an unwavering faith in God which she passed on to her children.
Jewel was preceded in death by one son; Todd Oliver, one brother; James Oliver, and two sisters; Geraldine and Beulah Oliver.
Left to cherish Jewel's memory is her husband; Jerry Copes Sr., two brothers; Robert and Winfred Oliver, two sisters; Mary Strattman and Susan Dixon, two sons; Maurice Oliver and Jerry Copes Jr., five daughters; Sheila Oliver, Nicole Copes-Freeman, Summer, Simone, and Shanika (Danielle) Copes, as well as one son-in-law, Tekolve Freeman Sr. sixteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a host of other loving family and friends.
The name "Jewel" was appropriate as she was, is, and always will be a gem in the memories of those who were blessed to have known her. She was the life blood and irreplaceable cornerstone of her family. Jewel's passing leaves a gaping hole in the hearts of all who loved her; she will be deeply missed by many.
