Joe Maxwell, age 78 of Lexington, Kentucky formerly of Cincinnati, Ohio passed away at his residence on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at 10:10 AM. He was born in Cuba, Alabama on November 25, 1933 the son of Sam Maxwell and Annie Mae (Goudy) Graham. Joe was a veteran during the Korean Conflict with the United States Army serving from 1953 -1956. He was married to Newell Gay in Cincinnati on February 17, 1990.
He is survived by his wife, Newell Maxwell of Lexington; three sons, Michael Maxwell and his wife Ann, Mark Maxwell, all of Chicago, and Joey Evans and his wife Joy of Cincinnati; two step-sons, Nathaniel Hutsell and Aylette Hutsell III and his wife Michelle, all of Lexington; Angela Gray, who was like a daughter to Joe of Lexington; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; twelve step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; an uncle, Emmitt Goudy and his wife Mattie of Meridian, Mississippi; a sister-in-law, Frances Buckner and her husband Rev. Leon Buckner of Cincinnati; three nephews, Leon Buckner Jr. and his wife Edie, Julius Lucas, and Deonta Hicks, all of Cincinnati; a niece, Unita Chambers of Chicago; special friends, Tracy Williams and Janelle "Nellie" Patton, both of Lexington; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Leonace and Carl Maxwell; and two brothers, Robert and Thomas Maxwell.
Funeral service will be held at the Newcomer Funeral Home, 7830 Hamilton Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio 45231, on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Clyde Beverly officiating. Burial will follow in Spring Grove cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM.
