John W. Hasselbeck

October 25, 1931 — December 27, 2016

Hasselbeck, John W. beloved husband of the late Molly Hasselbeck (nee Lang). Born October 25, 1931 and died December 27, 2016 on his 64th wedding anniversary to his late wife Molly.

Larger than life and very proud father of 6 children: Stephen (Anne), Donald (Mary Beth), Vernice (Tom) Fessel, Thomas (Debbie), Lisa (Jerry) Ruberg, and J. Perry (Becky) Hasselbeck.

Extremely proud grandpa to Matthew, Tim, Nathanael, Braden, Paige, Ben, Blake & Patrick Hasselbeck, as well as Chris, Jacque, Jon, & Angela Fessel, and Sean, Casey, & Erin Ruberg. Great Grandpa to Annabelle, Mallory, Henry, Grace, Taylor, Isaiah, Jack, Charlie, Abigail, Matthew, Maddison, Bennett, Molly, Harper, Reece, Aden, Dani, and Lucas. John's surviving siblings are, Anna Mae Melzer, Rita Porter, Delores SanMiguel, Carl Hasselbeck, Mary Tebelman, Arlene Hatcher. His sister-in-law Carol Nichols and her husband Nick remained an important part of his life.

John was a very proud graduate of Elder class of 1949. He was a dedicated parent of children who were educated at both LaSalle and Mother of Mercy High Schools.

After many years of coaching, singing in the choir, and activities at St. Catharine of Siena in Westwood where the kids were in every activity imaginable, John and Molly moved to Our Lady of Visitation parish where again, they became involved for over 30 years. John was a fixture at 6:30AM mass daily until his illness prohibited driving. John worked for the same company for 52 years. The company started as Harris Products, evolved to Bishopric, and is currently known as Enerfab. We are quite sure no one will ever match his 52 year employment record. John's work ethic, and determination, as well as his faith and friends, made him the great man he was.

He would be the first to tell you he was not perfect, but he had wonderful life-long friends from St. Catharine's, a strong and dedicated life to Christ, and a family that continues to make him proud. If you knew John, you know he loved to shake people's hands because his hand dwarfed most
others - part of the reason he was called "Big John".

John told his Hospice nurse he planned to join his wife in heaven for their anniversary this year. They were married on December 27, 1952 and the Lord blessed him with that one last prayer.

A special thank you to all the caregivers at Renaissance West/Wellington and Midwest Hospice.
