Obituary
John Willis, Sr., born August 24th, 1933, the son of the late Russell Willis, Sr., and Gertrude Signal, departed this life February 19th, 2012.
Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, John spent most of his life here, close to family and friends.
John joined the U.S. Navy in 1950 and served until he was honorably discharged in 1954.
John worked for the Cincinnati Board of Education for 10 years, from 1955 to 1965, and was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years, until his retirement in 1992. After retirement, John continued to work. He was a longtime employee of Greater Cincinnati Finishing Touch Team of PNC Bank, until January 2012.
John Willis, Sr., AKA "Big John" was a great man, father, and grandfather. He lived his life peacefully and honorably. "Big John" was a private man who was strong both mentally and physically. He loved and provided for his family and was always willing to help out for a good cause. "Big John" was a positive role model for his family, friends, and community. He passed down a priceless legacy of wisdom and truth to his loved ones. He wanted his life to be celebrated. "Big John" will be greatly missed, but his spirit and truth will live on forever.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell Willis, Sr., and Gertrude Signal; and several brothers.
Leaving to celebrate his life is his son, John Willis, II.; grandson, Jahzell Willis; sister, Mrs. Virginia Holmes; brothers, David Willis and Phillip Willis; and many nieces and nephews, along with numerous relatives and friends.
