Joseph L. Brock

Brock Sr., Joseph L. age 92, of Cincinnati, Ohio passed away on Thursday, October 4, 2018. He was born in Knoxville, Tennessee on April 5, 1926 to Albert H. and Mattie Belle Brock (nee Bearden).
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mattie Belle and Albert H. Brock, wife Rosie Brock (nee Voils); daughter, Jodie Powell; siblings, Brenda Brock, Hazel (Jack)Barrie, Vincent (Maddy) Brock, Shirley (Herman) Garris.
Joseph is survived by his son, Joseph (Karen) Brock, Jr.; sisters, Lillian Brooke, Marie Wilson; grandchildren, Lena (Jason) Mondy, Sarah Brock, Joshua (Lindsay) Brock, Ashley (Jonathan) Murray; great-grandchildren, Tyler Murray, Jackson Mondy, Griffin Mondy, Jude Brock, Frances Brock; nieces and nephew, Cindy (Tim) Saunders, Karen Garris, Sonny Garris and a host of other family members and friends.
Joseph served as a pipe fitter and communications expert in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1947. One of the many highlights during his service was when Joe played horseshoes with Admiral Nimitz while on Bikini Atoll located in the Marshall Islands during Operation Crossroads. Immediately following his honorable discharge in 1947, Joe received a letter from the Cleveland Indians to join the team for spring training, but declined because he wanted to spend time back home with his family (Joe often would jokingly say he regretted that decision).
In 1986, Joe retired from the United States Postal Service after 24 years of service. Along with baseball and his favorite Cincinnati Reds, Joe enjoyed playing golf, bowling, cooking and watching great movies and boxing matches. Joe's true passion was music which he shared with his family. Joe's achievements in music include producing 3 albums and being broadcast on Landmark Hour radio and Landmarks for Living television program. He was known as the "Singing Mailman". Joe always said "I'll sing at the drop of a hat, and I'll even drop the hat".
In loving memory of Joseph contributions may be made to Landmark Cincinnati.
A public visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 9th from 10:00 am to 11:30 am with a Funeral Ceremony to begin at 11:30 am at Landmark Cincinnati 1600 Glendale-Milford Road Cincinnati, Ohio. Interment will follow at Landmark Memorial Gardens located next to the church.
